Advice for seeing Alicante by car

Alicante has much to offer, despite being the smallest of the three provinces that make up the Valencian Community. Specifically because of its size, it allows you to visit Alicante’s innumerable towns and its different routes by car. Today, we want to give you two routes that will show you many of its virtues.

It is not unusual for many tourists, whether nationals or foreigners, to decide to rent a car in Alicante and get to know this area in depth. If you don’t want to miss out on discovering this amazing province, contact us and we will help you to find the vehicle you need. Now we’re going to tell you the best way to see Alicante by car.

Rent a car in Alicante

This is the first step, and the most convenient way to get around here. Renting a car in Alicante will give you the freedom to arrive here as you please (by boat, plane, train…) and then visit every corner at your own pace without being reliant on timetables or public transport.

This way, you will have the opportunity to visit the city of Alicante as well as its surroundings. And if you want to continue discovering the Spanish Levante, you simply need to head north to discover the Albufera Natural Park in Valencia or the incredible routes that go across Castellón.

2 routes for seeing Alicante by car

The prettiest beaches on the Costa Blanca

This is not a long route and, as we said before, it will help you to see Alicante by car in just one day. Well, at least the coastal area. However, you can always break it up into several days if you have time, and enjoy each place in a more relaxed manner.

After renting a car in Alicante, begin in Denia, where you can bathe at the Les Marines Beach and discover the impressive castle. If you have accommodation here or you arrive early, a breakfast on the promenade may be the best way to build up your energy to continue discovering the Costa Blanca.

Now move on to Xàbia, a place with coves and little idyllic locations in which you will want to lose yourself. The coves of Portitxol and Granadella are frequently visited by people who love water and underwater sports, as you can kayak or dive here, depending on your preference.

Continue along the Costa Blanca to Calpe, where you can’t miss a visit to the Peñón de Ifach. If the day is not too hot, you could stretch your legs on this short route and then return to see Alicante by car. The next stop is Altea, which is very close to Calpe, and which also has some incredible beaches

The final two stops are one of the best reasons for renting a car in Alicante. We’re talking about Benidorm and Villajoyosa, internationally recognised places (particularly the former) which, because of this, have a greater influx of people. Despite this fact, you will thoroughly enjoy its numerous activities in the Mediterranean.

But if you are looking for more relaxation on a quieter beach, the Playa de l’Amerador and the Illeta dels Banyets in Villajoyosa are your best choice. Here, you can while away the hours without haste.

The most incredible castles of Alicante

Now that you have travelled around the beaches of the Costa Blanca, its time to move inland to see Alicante by car in its entirety.  One of the advantages of visiting this province is that you can enjoy a number of things that are just a few kilometres apart.

Once you have rented the car in Alicante, or if you have previously been on the route, we recommend that you begin in the city. The Castle of Santa Bárbara is located in the city and can easily be visited in your vehicle, as it has free parking at the entrance.

From here, you can go to Onil, where you will find the Palace Fortress of the Marqués de Dos Aguas, an incredible 16th century construction. The following point on our route takes you even further back in time, as you visit the Castle of Castalla. This fortress was built in the 11th century on Neolithic and Iberian-Roman settlements.

Either of these two places is ideal for a bit of hiking. Alternatively, you can continue on your quest to see Alicante by car. The following two stops take you to Biar Castle and to the Atalaya de Villena Castle. To complete this route, finish the trip at the castles of Sax, the one at Petrer and the one at Mola, as well as visiting the Sanctuary of Magdalena en Novelda.
