Alicante and Murcia are already in Phase 2

The provinces of Alicante and Murcia are already in Phase 2 as the coronavirus infection curve continues to decrease. The best data since the beginning of the pandemic has been obtained in recent weeks, both in the Valencian Community and in the Murcia region. That’s why both communities continue to progress with de-escalation and get closer to a so-called “new normal” every day.

 Murcia started with Phase 2 on 25 May as a result of improved conditions with the pandemic. However, although the Valencian Community data has also followed a positive trend, the community government chose not to ask for the phase change by 25 May, to avoid rushing and for better health and safety. For this reason, all municipalities in Alicante-Costa Blanca province will move to phase 2 from June 2.

What does the transition to phase 2 mean?

 This de-escalation step involves the opening of shopping centres with capacity limited to 40%. The hospitality sector will be able to open the interior of premises at between 40% and 50% capacity. Schools may only open for specific courses and activities. Hotels may open common areas at 33% capacity and cinemas, theatres and concert halls may also do so at 33% of capacity,

For meetings between friends or family the number will increase to 15. Time limits will also be eliminated, allowing free movement for users with the exception of those for people over 70 years of age.  Recreational pools will open and a maximum capacity of 30% will be allowed for travelling and staying on beaches in groups of up to 15 people maximum, while complying with the safe distance of 2 metres between users. To do this, each municipality will consider the spatial distribution of beaches and determine the limitations.

And finally, the big news. Spain will reopen for foreign tourism with safe origins and destinations, starting from July.This reopening will be possible due to agreements between countries. This is how EU countries want to facilitate mobility between states, by ensuring traveller safety.
