Gastronomic experiences in Alicante

A key part of the Alicante travel experience is Mediterranean gastronomy, from haute cuisine to tapas with a good beer. Spain, and Alicante in particular, has a long list of iconic and traditional foods that can’t be found anywhere else. Visiting Spain and not tasting its cuisine is a waste. For that reason, today we are bringing you a list of the best gastronomic experiences Alicante has to offer.

The “Tapa Cofrade” tapas route

Just as Christmas is the time for nougat or the “roscón de reyes” cake, for the last few years, in April, Easter has been the time for the “tapa cofrade” tapas route. For the last six years, the Alicante Provincial Association of Hotel and Catering Businesses (APEHA) has organised the Lenten Gastronomic Days. This is a competition, with the participation of around 13 restaurants, consisting of two initiatives: the aforementioned “tapa cofrade” tapas route and the “Friday Lenten menus”. Both initiatives consist of a series of dishes made with fish, vegetables and traditional sweets, avoiding foods that do not form part of Easter customs. Octopus stew, cod fritters and rice dishes are just some of the foods you can try.

Diners can vote for their favourite tapas and menus, and enter a competition with them, with up to five different prizes available for five winners. The initiative runs from 7 March to 17 April. Although it is a relatively new event, it has already become one of the most traditional gastronomic experiences in Alicante.

All-year-round gastronomic experiences in Alicante

The whole area of Alicante is very rich in terms of culture and leisure, and is usually accompanied by fine weather. As a result, the province has become one of the country’s major tourist attractions, and with it comes increasing demand and supply. Over the years, a wide variety of gastronomic experiences have emerged in Alicante, designed to suit all tastes and with fantastic displays of creativity.

In the city of Alicante, you can find creative Mediterranean cuisine restaurants such as Apyrita, or more traditional experiences like Restaurante Fondillón. Gastronomic experiences in Alicante also include foreign influences, such as Artesana Cocina Peruana, which aims to bring the flavours of Peruvian cuisine to the province. There is also Puerto Madero, which was born as an Argentinian steakhouse and still hasn’t forgotten its roots, being one of the most beautiful places to eat in Alicante.

The best restaurants in the province

Other corners of Alicante are also home to many incredible experiences. For example, with its terrace bordering the port of Denia, there is the Nómada restaurant, with its Italian haute cuisine. There is also El Xato, in La Nucía, which has won over both Michelin Star and Sol Repsol judges. We cannot forget the D-VORA restaurant in Benidorm, which has been at the top of The Fork platform ranking for several years, or the now classic La Finca, in Elche, one of the veterans of gastronomic experiences in Alicante.

Visiting the best places in Alicante while trying out the best restaurants is undoubtedly one of those tourist experiences that is not to be missed.
